The day was finally over, and I was walking home. I saw my skip bin and knew I would have to call a skip hire in the morning. But that could wait. Right now, I just wanted to go inside my nice, safe home. But I was sadly mistaken. My house was indeed not safe. Far from it. It was actually the last place I wanted to be if I wanted to be safe. But I didn't know that... yet.
I walked inside my house as a huge bolt of lightning struck a tree somewhere off in the distance. I always hated lightning and rain. They always seemed so sinister to me. I always remember the instruction of my mother. She used to tell me that lightning was god's way of saying that he was angry. I never believed her.
I had the house to myself since my wife was on a business trip. She left instruction on what to do to keep the house running. I threw the paper in the trash bin. I didn't want any instruction tonight. Just some nice relaxation time. I sat down by my fireplace and turned on the television. Some commercial was on about the danger of young drivers and how they were dangerous. Little did I know, young drivers were not the most dangerous thing for me right now. I heard a creak somewhere off in my house. I got up, and went to go check it out as the commercial about young drivers kept raging on.
"Hello?" I said. Nobody answered. I guess I hadn't expected anyone to. But it was just instinct. I heard something in my bathroom. The door was locked. This was starting to get weird. I knocked. And suddenly there was a moaning coming from the inside. I stepped back and using all my force, rammed into the door, knocking it down.
Inside, to my horror, was my wife. She wasn't alone. There was a man there with a huge mask on his face. It was just a giant smile painted on. Nothing else. I looked around for some kind of weapon, but there was none. As the man in the mask pulled out a knife, I found myself wishing I had taken my chances with the lightning. I said a few prayers, and then it was all over.
