Working so far away always seemed to cause a problem, I had to leave for work 2 hours before starting because of the schedule of public transport. It would take you all around the world to get to where you are going. I knew I needed to learn to drive, but as there were no female driving instructors locally at the moment I wouldn't contemplate it. I only wanted female driving instructors as I was quite nervy around men.

I had been sent on a business course which would improve my job prospects if I completed it but it was a three month course involving a lot of travel, and of course public transport was not the best way to get from meeting to meeting. I seemed to spend all my time on trains doing competitions from the magazines.

I got quite good and won quite a few small items but the best was a new car. Now I had to bite the bullet and learn to drive. Phoning up to enquire about female driving instructors, again I was told that none were available so I had to book with a man but apparently, he was very experienced with nervy drivers.

The day of my first lesson arrived and I couldn't speak, I was that nervous. the instructor eased me into the seat and took it very slowly. we just travelled around an old disused car park so I could get a feel of the car. He was fantastic and I really settled with him, he made me feel very confident. Slowly, we ventured onto roads and then busy roads and I was doing it, I was driving!

Booking my test was a different story, I couldn't wait to do it. we arrived at the test centre and I couldn't believe it, my examiner was one of the female driving instructors. She told me that there were three available and couldn't understand why I couldn't book with one of them but I told her it didn't matter anymore as I really liked my instructor.

Passing my test was definitely a boost for my self confidence and also very good for my job. I got promoted at work and had my new car to travel from meeting but I didn't give up on my competitions. I was addicted to them after winning the car and entered every one I could. You just never know when you might win again.
